Obituary of Duane W Owen

Please share a memory of Duane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Duane E Owen passed away Saturday December 23, 2017. Duane was born March 29, 1930 in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Robert and Blanch Owen. The summer before his senior year, the family moved to Emmett, Idaho where he met his sweetheart, Janet Ashley. They were married July 29, 1950 in Emmett, Idaho. Dad worked at the saw mill in Emmett until 1958 when he joined the Idaho State Police and began his police career at the Port of Entry in Lewiston, Idaho. Three years later he was promoted to patrolman and assigned a patrol car in Twin Falls, Idaho. In 1967 he was promoted to Corporal and the family moved to Buhl, Idaho where we resided until moving back to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1974. In 1978 dad was promoted to sergeant and he and mom moved to Lewiston until Dad retired in 1987 after 29 years of service. They moved back to the Magic Valley to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Dad was always proud of the Idaho State Police and to be a State trooper and we were always proud of him as well. He was an honest, upstanding man. Dad didn't know a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone. Chances are he would find someone in common with the person he just met. He made many good friends through the years through his career, church, coffee and breakfast buddies. Vern Thieman has been Dad's driver, eyes and best buddy over the last years. What a blessing! Dad loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren but more than that he loved his Lord Jesus Christ and brought Him into many conversations. He served in many capacities in the Nazarene Church through the years. Sang a lot of solos, and in many choirs. Most recently in the Bridgeview Estates Christmas Concert. It was a joy to hear him sing. He always had a song in his heart and sang many crazy songs to his grandchildren and great grandchildren and was a whistler. Duane is survived by his three children: Sharon Reed, Boise,ID; Greg (Jean) Owen, Boise, ID; Sue (Mel) Stokesberry, Twin Falls, ID; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jerry) Miller, Boise, ID; Tara (Alan) Thompson, Boise, ID; Nate (Megan) Owen, Genesee, ID; Shaun (Jen) Stokesberry, Twin Falls, ID; Nic (Nastya) Owen, Vale, OR; Pat (Nikoa Hollis) Boise,ID; Jake Miller, Boise, ID; great grandchildren Ariana Christiansen, Boise,ID; Cooper, Charlie & Emma Owen, Genesse,ID; Kaylee and Ashlyn Stokesberry, Twin Falls, ID; and Malaya Miller, Boise, ID; dear friend Vern Thieman, sister Shirley Shepherd, brother Bruce (Jo) Owen and many nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his wife of 62 years, Janet, his parents, and his brothers Bob, Virg and Caroll Owen. Funeral services will be held 11:00AM on Thursday, December 28 at the Kimberly Nazarene Church. Viewing for Duane will be held from6-8PM on Wednesday, December 27 at Rosenau Funeral Home.
