Barbara Ann Milligan
Many books will remain unread, as Barbara Ann Milligan passed away on January 31st 2018; two weeks shy of her 70th birthday.
Born in Boise, Idaho on February 17th, 1948, Barbara was raised by her mother, Louise Carringer. Spending her childhood in Pocatello, Barbara was involved in many school activities, particularly writing and singing. After graduating from Pocatello High School, she attended Idaho State University. She journeyed to Nevada and the West Coast before returning to Idaho. She settled in Mountain Home in the summer of 1961. Always determined, she was employed at First Security Bank, after submitting a résumé – and returning every day until a job was offered. Following marriage and the birth of two sons, Barbara moved to Shelton, Washington where she volunteered in local schools. Returning to Mountain Home, Barbara both worked and raised her sons, all the while teaching them the importance of music and literature.
After selling her home and twenty consecutive weeks of garage sales, Barbara raised enough money to fulfill her dream of completing college. Graduating from Boise State in 2008, Barbara took teaching jobs from Boise to Twin Falls, finally moving to Twin Falls to be closer to her younger grandchildren. She could be seen at football, basketball, and soccer games, cheering for all the kids. Barbara continued to educate herself, journaling, free writing, joining book clubs, public speaking clubs, and even the occasional singing gig.
Barbara became devoted to Foster Grandparents, a group dedicated to providing assistance to elementary students from varying backgrounds. She came early, stayed late, and went the extra mile for children every day, regardless of whether she gave birth to them – or just met them in the classroom.
The following unattributed quote was found in one of her last journals: "No one really dies, not while there are people who remember and cherish them. And don't forget, tombstones don't list your occupation, they list your relationships."
Barbara Ann Milligan was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.
